AzureMate Desktop System - Explorer Upload Blobs Form Page Explained

Hello and welcome to AzureMate, Windows Azure Cloud Data Storage Explorer System, Blobs Upload Form Page. This AzureMate Upload Blobs Manager form provides you with the ability to upload any kind of files from your computer file system to selected Blob Container. The files can be uploaded to container with or without prefixes (directory names). The number of files to upload at a time is unlimited.

You can pick a large number of files, send them to the Transfer Files Manager form, which uploads (downloads) the files asynchronously, minimize the form and do other things with AzureMate while the files are being uploaded, you are notified when all files are done. The operations on the blob containers include:

  • Uploading files from your system to selected containers.
  • Deleting all blob files contained in selected containers.

Important Note
You can simulate folders and sub folders of files by prefixing each file with a string of characters separated with forward slashes '/' and no spaces (ex. MyPictures/Holidays/Europe/Family.jpg). When you select a folder in your system containing files and other folders of files, AzureMate automatically adds the folder names as prefixes to files for you.

Upload Blobs Explorer Form

When you look at the top right corner of the page you will see the currently selected storage account's total number of Blob, Table and Queue containers.

Following table contains all the available elements for review.

Element Description
Combo Box:
Select Blob
Container
All blob containers in the currently used storage account are listed and available for selection in this combo box. All operations of the form will pertain to the selected container, any files you want to upload are uploaded in to this container, any blobs you want to clear are cleared from this container.

This Upload Blobs Manager form is called from the Explore Azure Blobs form. If you have selected a container there the combo box assumes it, if not, you have to select one before any uploads or clearing.
Button:
Delete Blobs
Left click this button to start the process of deleting all blob files in the currently selected Blob Container. Be cautious, when you click this button, all files contained in the currently selected blob container are deleted permanently.
Button:
Refresh
Containers
Left click this button to start the process of refreshing the combo box's list of available Blob Containers in the currently used storage account for new display. When you click this button, the combo box is refreshed and ready for your selections.
Numeric Box:
Total Blobs
Shows the total figure of file blobs that the selected blob Container already contains.
Text Box:
Folder Name
And Path

This text box contains a local system Root Folder Name you have selected or typed in, including Path. All files, including sub folders and their files, of the root folder are added to the List of files to be uploaded. Select or Type in folder name including its path (ex. C:\Users\Henry\Azure\Testing), note the backward slashes. After exiting the text box, the path is checked and you are notified if it does not exist. The path is remembered by AzureMate.

Important Notes
All files in the root folder are added to the selected container without any prefix. The files in the sub folders of the root directory will be added with a prefix of folder names (ex. Testing/MyPictures/MyFamily), note the forward slashes.

When you download a file with a prefix back to your system, the names of sub folders are created if they do not exist, so you can preserve the blob folder structures in any folder you select on your system.

Button:
Select
Folder
Left click this button to start the process of selecting a Root Folder on your system containing the files and sub folders of files you want to upload to selected blob container. When you click this button, a Folder Picker will appear where you can select a root folder. The name including path of the selected folder are copied to the adjacent text box above.
Button:

The Grid below contains this List where you still can update the List by adding more files or removing any unwanted files before you upload them.

Important Note
Caution, when you click this button, the Grid's List is Cleared of all previous files first. Then the List is loaded from the root folder.

Text Box:
Blob Prefix
Structure
Any file you select to be added to the List by clicking the Add Files to List button below is prefixed with the folder structure you type in to this text box. For example, if you want all files you select in the same folder but not to be in the root of receiving container, type in something like: MyPictures/Europe/Family (forward slashes but not at the beginning and end and no spaces). If you leave this text box empty, files are uploaded to the root of selected container. The prefix is remembered by AzureMate.
Button:
Add Files
To List
Left click this button to start the process of adding more files to the List of files to be uploaded. In this operation you can only add one or more files from the same folder, not folders of files. When you click this button, a File Picker will appear where you can select one or more files. If you do select any files, they are prefixed with the folder structure you type in to the text box above and are added to the bottom of the Grid's List.
